So we all have awkwardness in our lives, right? That's the one part that most people our age can agree on these days, the one speck of similarity that unites us. Neither familial ties, or race ties us all together, but now at this moment, awkward moments bring us together. I want to begin a "series" if you will on the awkward moments that have happened to me. I'm not talking something like a general awkwardness to your gait, or your own personal sense of awkward. Oh no, believe me, I appreciate that and all, but this is no joke here; these instances seem to me to be things that go above and beyond the norm of blunders. Hype is all I have spoken until now, but shall we to some more pointed examples, or should I say, one for now. One very pointed example… My mother complimented my butt today.
Now, I implore you to let the good times roll with eastern KY jokes, mainly cause I'm not in eastern KY. But seriously, what is one to do when one's own mother proffers such an obtuse cajolery? Personally, I took it as a grain of salt, and refused to take it any further, as I didn't want to freak my mom out. Usually, however - just as it happened tonight - I would make a big deal of it. This is not the only time I've received such a compliment though; the most recent memory that surfaces happened last year over tumbling tour. There was a little girl at one of the schools, ironically in Eastern Kentucky, she couldn't have been any older than 9. But, one second I'm talking to this kid about how he needs to get a life, essentially… hey, he asked for it. Either way, while I was talking to this kid, this litter girl comes up to me and says "Hayley over there thinks you have a bubble butt!" And she just runs off. I'll be honest with you, people, I was speechless for perhaps the first time in my life. This kept going through the entire day, mind you. At lunch she saw me again and yelled "HI BUBBLE BUTT!" Even after school, when we were loading the truck with out equipment, she yelled across the schoolyard "BYE BUBBLE BUTT!"
So, I guess the entire point of this is to tell you all to just go with the flow. Don't let things, no matter how awkward they may be, get in the way of you having a good day. I'm not going to lie when I say that when this little girl said that, I, while speechless, couldn't keep from laughing at the whole situation. So, when life makes you uncomfortable, just laugh it out.
